Here we go...agan!

All right I'll admit it.

I don't like change.

This probably comes as a surprise for someone who changes country every year.  I never lived in the same place with the same people since I started college...but I really really really HATE moving.

College was different in that I expected to need to move all the time and became really proud of my streamlined level of existence...although nothing compared to some other people I know (I think one of my roomies only had a suitcase books and a box full of DVDs when she moved out.)  Still others had about TWENTY TWO boxes that they somehow managed to cram into a single room!  I fell somewhere in the middle of that.

But since leaving college I've been practically forced to keep my possessions down to a bare 20 kg.  I gave away tons of things when I left Japan and came to Austrralia thinking all right, we're staying put for awhile...it's okay to accummulate stuff.  Kieran and I had a ball going to the supacenter that had tons of furniture stores after we moved out of our first flat.  We now have a nice load of stuff to happily furnish a home...

As soon as we find a new one!

After our "new" flat we were recently issued a notice of termination because we had only signed a 6 month lease to start.  And we have 3 weeks to find a new place.

Sigh so here we go again.

Somethings you'll never get used to....grrr.

Happy Holidays Happy New Year etc.

At least we're getting off to a good start:

While not directly admitting that they were WRONG, the move by the Bush Administration has essentially demonstrated that the wiretapping program was questionable, despite their insistence that it was legal and the ONLY way to ensure to stop terrorists.

Re-wiring wire  tapping (or something to that effect)

This is the year of a strong resounding liberal: TOLD YA SO!

Happy Thanksgiving and the mail that WON'T get lost!

Happy Turkey Day Stateside!  Since I am not in the US right now, I take it that I am obliged to be a non-thankful selfish prick so as to show respect for non-American values.

Anyhow, entertaining little anecdote for the day:

About 800 people must have previously lived at my current address...only about 20% of the addressed mail we get is actually ours, so it really must say something about the place we live in if people seem to only stay here a few months at a time.  One guy even had his mail redirected to this address and now, no longer resides here although the mail is still coming.

So as responsible citizens, when we receive a piece of mail that is not addressed to us, rather than throw it out or open it (that's a federal offense), we write RTS on it (return to sender) and put it back in the slot.  Address of the sender is clearly marked on the back.

This morning, one of the pieces of mail came back to us.  With a new time stamp showing that it has been through the mail system 3 times now!

I am very tempted to put it back in and see where it goes...it's like an infinite logic loop I suppose.

Venting

I live in this 2 story townhouse that is built JUST shy of however long it takes to answer my phone.  If I'm upstairs, my cell phone is always downstairs, if I'm downstairs for 2 freakin seconds, the phone will ring upstairs.  And no matter how I run, I always get to it JUST as the bloody thing switches to voicemail.

And then the person is always ON the voicemail when I try and call them back so I have to wait and call them but then of course they've already told me everything on my voicemail so they're peeved to need to tell me again.

OR they have withheld numbers and don't bother leaving a message at all.  Then I'll always get another call hours later when once again I'm at the wrong part of the house and again the whole thing happens again!

So if you call with a withheld number LEAVE A FUCKING MESSAGE!!!!

Torn...

Yes folks, I'm actually...torn...about the new government.

On the one hand I'm snoopy-dancing with victory!  There's hope...or at least a semblance of hope brought on by the possible change.  And that's a lot more than we've had in a loooong while.

On the other hand...all the bleak darkness and despair was such good creative material!  I had a lovely little piece all planned out on a new dystopia and the demise of the world...and now who's going to want to read that??
